Eligibility Criteria and Fees
Learners can undertake a qualification or short course with Smartskill, and the fees can be paid through:
- Fee for Service - where you pay for your own course
- Subsidised training - if you are eligible then certain funding may be available to cover the cost of your qualification (see eligibilty criteria below)

Subsidised training
Smartskill is a pre-approved registered training organisation (RTO) who are able to deliver training and assessment services subsidised by the Queensland Government. You can see this approval through the skillsgateway.training.qld.gov.au/ website.

VET in Schools (VETiS) - Eligibility criteria
- as part of their school studies – delivered and resourced by a school that is also a registered training organisation (RTO)
- by enrolling with an external RTO – funded either by the Queensland Government's VET in Schools program or through fee-for-service arrangements, where fees are paid by an individual such as a student or parent, or another entity such as a community or industry group
- as a school-based apprentice or trainee – funded either by the Queensland Government or fee-for-service arrangements

Career Start - Eligibility Criteria
- access to certificate III qualifications in priority and emerging industries
- access to apprenticeship and traineeship training in priority and emerging industries
- access to lower-level qualifications identified by industry as the entry point for jobs
- expanded access to foundation skills such as language, literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and employability skills
- increased access to training in regional and remote areas
- supported training pathways for women and priority cohorts to take-up skilled careers.
- aged 15 years or older
- not be a school student
- permanently reside in Queensland
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
- not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications don't count)
- not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it's on hold or deferred, whether funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training or not (foundation skills qualifications don't count).

Career Boost - Eligibility Criteria
- aged 15 years or older
- not be a school student
- permanently reside in Queensland
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
- not already have a certificate IV or higher qualification (including tertiary qualifications) completed within the last 10 years* (qualifications completed as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications don't count)
- not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it's on hold or deferred, whether funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training or not (foundation skills qualifications don't count).
